Islamabad: (RightNow) An avalanche in northern Pakistan has left 10 climbers missing. The team, led by Nepali climber Nirmal Purja, was on Broad Peak.

According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, the avalanche occurred at an altitude of 8,047 meters on Broad Peak. The team includes 5 Nepali, 1 Pakistani, 1 Omani, 1 Chinese, 1 American, and one climber of unknown nationality.

The club reported that the entire team has been out of contact since the avalanche. Helicopters and other resources are being used in the rescue operation.

This incident occurred on Broad Peak, the world’s 12th highest mountain. It poses a threat to the climbers’ lives and is a concern for their families.
