Islamabad: (RightNow) The federal government has decided to import 1 million metric tons of wheat. This decision aims to determine the quality of wheat in consultation with the provinces.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Federal Wheat Board yesterday. The meeting reviewed the availability and distribution of wheat in detail. Officials stated that this step is taken considering the provincial needs.

It was also decided in the meeting that the wheat import decision will be based on the overall needs of the provinces. Furthermore, fair distribution of imported wheat will be ensured.

This step has gained importance due to the decline in local wheat production. The supply of imported wheat is expected to stabilize the local market.

It is noteworthy that due to wheat scarcity in Pakistan, the government has had to rely on imports. Last year, a similar decision was made to meet local demands.
