Bishkek: (RightNow) The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit 2026 commenced on Monday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The opening session was held at the Enisey Conference Hall of the Ala Archa State Residence, attended by officials, media heads, think tanks, and experts from member countries.

The summit’s main theme is ‘Shanghai Spirit in a New Era: From Shared Values to Practical Cooperation.’ Representatives from Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Iran, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and other member states shared their views on media cooperation, regional connectivity, and global governance.

Pakistan was represented by Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, Director General of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. In his address, he stated, ‘Artificial intelligence, digital technology, and social media have transformed communication, but the responsibility of truth, accuracy, credibility, and ethical journalism on media has increased.’ He added, ‘Public service broadcasters not only provide information but also strengthen cultural heritage, national unity, education, and mutual harmony among nations.’

Iran’s Mehr Media Group CEO, Mohammad Mehdi Rahmati, emphasized that ‘intelligent media is not just a platform for information but a strategic capability for harmony, conflict resolution, and shaping a shared future for humanity.’ He stressed that ‘unity and solidarity can transform scattered forces into a great power, which is the mission of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the current era.’

It is noteworthy that the SCO Media and Think Tank Summit aims to promote media cooperation, research links, public diplomacy, and cultural exchanges among member countries to strengthen mutual trust, shared development, and sustainable cooperation in the region. Representatives from Kyrgyzstan, China, Belarus, India, Iran, and other countries will address the summit, focusing on the role of media, fostering mutual trust, and regional development.
