Dhaka: (RightNow). Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin has unexpectedly resigned from his position, causing a stir in national politics.

Mohammad Shahabuddin, aged 76, had been serving as President since April 2023. His term was set to end in 2028.

In his statement, the President revealed he has been diagnosed with autonomic neuropathy, which compelled him to step down.

Following his resignation, National Parliament Speaker Hafizuddin Ahmed will serve as the interim President. A new President is expected to be elected within the next 90 days.

It is important to note that Shahabuddin stated his resignation is solely due to health issues, and he has not contacted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
