Islamabad: (RightNow) Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi announced that 60% of the Thar Coal Railway Connectivity Project is complete. The project is expected to be finished by December 2026.

Increased use of local coal has reduced electricity production costs. In March 2025, the fuel cost per unit was 12.2 rupees, down 27% from last year’s 16.8 rupees.

Upon project completion, further reductions in electricity costs are anticipated. The government states this project will aid in meeting the country’s energy needs.

It is important to note that the Thar Coal Railway Project is crucial for the national economy, as it reduces electricity production costs and supports industrial growth.

It should be remembered that the Ministry of Railways has prepared a comprehensive strategic roadmap up to 2033, including modern railway infrastructure and digital transformation.
