India has approved its first dengue vaccine, developed with a Japanese company, already used in 42 countries.
New Delhi: (RightNow) India has approved the use of a dengue vaccine. The Qdenga vaccine, developed by Japanese company Takeda, was approved by the Indian Ministry of Health on July 21.
The vaccine is intended for individuals aged 4 to 60 years. Before approval, its quality and efficacy were thoroughly tested. The vaccine is administered through 2 injections over 3 months.
According to Indian authorities, the vaccine is effective against dengue. It is already in use in 42 countries, with 24 million doses administered.
India has reported over 1 million dengue cases and 1,500 deaths. The approval of the vaccine will help control the disease.
It is noteworthy that India is working on developing its own dengue vaccine. It aims to be the world’s first single-dose vaccine.
