Islamabad: (RightNow) The rising HIV cases have led to concerns over the ban on 10cc syringes, deemed dangerous for newborn treatment. This was stated by Dr. Muhammad Khalid Shafi, Chairperson of the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group.

Dr. Khalid Shafi has written to the CEO of DRAP, requesting a review of the 10cc syringe ban. He states that these syringes are essential for administering accurate medication doses to children, with no available alternatives.

He further mentioned that the ban could disrupt nutritional supply to newborns. Dr. Khalid emphasized the need for evidence-based regulatory decisions.

Dr. Khalid proposed forming an advisory committee of experts within DRAP. He stated that infection control measures should not hinder children’s treatment.

It is important to note that 10cc syringes are crucial for pediatric and neonatal patients. Dr. Khalid has appealed for a review of the ban’s scope.
