The Oil Companies Advisory Council warns of a potential petrol shortage in Pakistan, urging immediate government intervention.
Islamabad: (RightNow) The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has warned the government about a potential petrol shortage. They have demanded immediate government intervention to maintain petrol supply.
According to OCAC, the country’s petrol stock is approximately 370,000 tons, sufficient for only 15 days. Delays in customs clearance have prevented imported petrol from reaching the market.
The OCAC has stated that pending claims worth Rs 66.7 billion should be released immediately. Otherwise, the financial crisis could affect the import capacity of oil marketing companies.
They have urged the government for immediate customs clearance of imported petroleum products and emergency measures. Otherwise, petrol supply could be disrupted, leading to a local shortage.
It is noteworthy that in the event of a petrol shortage, economic activities in most areas of the country could be affected, causing difficulties for the public.
