Jerusalem: (RightNow) Israel’s security cabinet has approved a budget of 1.3 billion shekels for establishing 34 new Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced this decision.

He further stated that with the establishment of these new settlements, the number of approved Jewish settlements in a four-year period will reach 103. The United Nations and other international bodies consider this move a violation of laws.

Israel claims these settlements are legal and necessary for security. Bezalel Smotrich called the decision historic and thanked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

It is important to note that Jewish settlement in the West Bank has been a major issue of contention between Israel and the Palestinians. The geographical continuity and autonomy of Palestinian territories are being affected.

Remember that parliamentary elections are scheduled in Israel on October 27, and this move by Bezalel Smotrich’s party aims to gain support from settlers.
