Fujairah: (Right Now News) The United Arab Emirates has decided to reduce its reliance on Dubai and avoid the Strait of Hormuz by constructing a new port. Emirati company DP World has initiated negotiations for building the new port on the eastern coast.

DP World is also considering a plan to build a container terminal at the existing Fujairah port. The need to reduce dependence on Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port and find alternative maritime routes is being prioritized.

Following American and Israeli attacks, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been affected by Iranian drone and missile strikes. According to Emirati officials, this project aims to mitigate potential threats from Iran.

It is important to note that after Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, activities at Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port decreased by 90 to 95 percent. Emirati officials state that the new port could be completed within one and a half years.

Remember that before the regional conflict, 135 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz daily, but the current situation has limited this number to 40 ships.
