Islamabad: (Right Now News) The federal government has decided to maintain heavy taxes on essential food items in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. This move suggests a low likelihood of price reductions for everyday goods.

Sources indicate that immediate relief on daily essentials in Budget 2026 is unlikely. Significant tax reductions are not under consideration as the government aims to meet revenue targets.

Officials have stated that an 18% sales tax will remain on sugar, ghee, cooking oil, and tea. A 1% sales tax will continue on medicines, and duties on other items will also persist.

Trade experts suggest these measures limit expectations for price reductions for inflation-hit consumers. Heavy duties will also remain on imported chicken, vegetables, and vegetable oil.

It is noteworthy that the federal government has called sessions of the National Assembly and Senate on June 5 to present the budget. This budget will be a significant milestone for the public.
