National Economic Council Meeting, 1126 Billion Development Budget Expected

Islamabad: (Right Now News) The National Economic Council (NEC) is expected to approve a federal development budget of 1126 billion rupees for the fiscal year 2026-27. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday.

Chief ministers from all four provinces, as well as representatives from Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, will participate in the meeting. According to the Ministry of Planning, the proposed budget is 289 billion rupees more than this year’s revised development budget.

The new budget allocates 730 billion rupees for infrastructure and 408 billion for transport projects. Social projects will receive 187 billion, and energy projects will be allocated 135 billion rupees.

The economic growth target for the next fiscal year is set at 4 percent, with agriculture targeted at 3.8 percent. An increase in the budget for sustainable development goals is also under consideration.

It should be noted that the economic growth for the current fiscal year was 3.7 percent, compared to the target of 4.2 percent. The Annual Plan Coordination Committee has given its principal approval for the 1126 billion budget.
