Gilgit: (Right Now News) The fourth general elections in Gilgit-Baltistan have been announced. Political parties have intensified their campaigns for the elections scheduled on June 7.

A total of 664 candidates are contesting for 24 general seats. The highest number of candidates, 58, are competing in Gilgit’s constituency two, while the lowest, 11, are in Diamer’s constituency four.

The Chief Election Commissioner stated that the elections were postponed due to severe weather. With improved conditions, the election schedule has now been released.

These elections are significant as their results could influence Islamabad’s politics. A tough contest is expected between the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-N.

It is noteworthy that the first elections in Gilgit-Baltistan were held in 2009. Since then, Islamabad has had a profound impact on the region’s politics.
