Islamabad: (Right Now News) Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari has taken serious notice of electricity purchases by distribution companies against the merit order and ordered an immediate inquiry.

He stated that electricity purchases will be conducted under NEPRA regulations. The Power Division has instructed all companies to fully adhere to the merit order.

The Energy Minister emphasized that preference will be given to low-cost power plants to ensure affordable electricity for the public and maintain transparency in the system.

He further mentioned that electricity supply from expensive power plants will only be possible under the merit order. The Power Division announced that electricity will not be procured without following the merit order in the future.

It is noteworthy that the Energy Minister has directed institutions to take strict action against those violating regulations to improve transparency in the energy sector.
