Islamabad: (Right Now News) The Ministry of Energy has announced that all users installing solar systems must obtain a NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) license. This decision aims to regulate electricity production systematically.

According to sources, previously, distribution companies issued licenses for systems up to 25 kilowatts. Now, all users must obtain a license directly from NEPRA. A pay order in NEPRA’s name must also be submitted for the license.

Officials stated that after amendments, users will be connected to the net billing project, while those using hybrid technology will be exempt from the license requirement.

This initiative is significant for increasing transparency in the energy sector and better managing electricity production. It will help meet users’ electricity needs more effectively.

It is noteworthy that the government had announced an 18% sales tax on solar panels in the next fiscal year’s budget, which is expected to increase the cost of solar systems.
