Karachi: (Right Now News) Anti-polio officials briefed the Prime Minister that only one polio case has been reported in Pakistan in 2026, from Sujawal district. In 2024, there were 74 cases, and in 2025, there were 31 cases.

An important review meeting on polio eradication was held at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad, where participants were briefed on anti-polio measures. It was reported that in 2026, no polio cases have emerged from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

In the first quarter of 2025, 67 districts in the country were affected by polio, which decreased to 23 in the first quarter of 2026. National household coverage for all anti-polio campaigns remained at 98%.

In the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, improved access and anti-polio campaigns have reduced the number of children missing polio drops. A significant decline in local polio virus spread has been observed in the Quetta block.

It is noteworthy that no polio case has been reported in Dera Ismail Khan since September 2025. Strategies for integrating EPI and PEI at federal and provincial levels are being formulated.
